UCONN WON!!!!! I’m so happy that they proved that a team with experience can still beat talent.

Also I think it was a bit of history haunting for John Calipari, back when he was coach for Memphis with Rose and Cousins his team couldn’t shoot free throws and in the end they couldn’t beat Kansas. Tonight they shot 13-24 while UCONN shot 10-10.

What is your favorite sports team and why? Who is your favorite sports celebrity and why?

Anonymous

My favorite sports celebrity is Calvin Johnson. He is an absolute all-star but also is a class act. No show-boating just a beast.

And my favorite sports team has got to be the tigers. They are the reason i fell in love with baseball and its always a great time going to the park for a game.

Evidently the relationship between Seahawks CB Richard Sherman and 49ers WR Michael Crabtree hasn’t gotten any better during the offseason. A tweet from Steiner Sports shows a photo of Sherman that he autographed and included a nice taunt toward his NFC West rival that says, “Sorry Crabtree.”

It was a successful Opening Day in Detroit, with an unlikely hero stepping forward.Alex Gonzalez, who was traded to the Detroit only a week ago, is expected to be a serviceable replacement for everyday shortstop Jose Iglesias while he is out with shin injuries, but no one could have expected the impact he’d have in the first game of the season. After starting the game rather bumpy with an error on a routine ground ball that resulted in Kansas scoring their third run of the fourth inning, it was the bottom half of the game where he snatched victory for the Tigers, not with one key base hit, but two: a game-tying triple in the 7th inning, and a huge walk-off single to send the Tigers to a come from behind victory in front of the largest Opening Day crowd in Comerica Park history. All from a man that no one had real high expectations for. But with his big day in Detroit, new manager Brad Ausmus may be interested in seeing this 16 year veteran man the shortstop position a little more than first expected.Justin Verlander, in his seventh straight Opening Day start, had a passable day on the mound, tossing 6 innings and allowing 6 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), walking 3 and striking out 2. He also helped out on defense by initiating a tailor-made double-play on a ground ball back to him.Tigers have the day off tomorrow, and will pick up the series against Kansas on Wednesday at 1:08 PM.
